Harvard Museum of Natural History-upcoming events
University museums across the country offer great ways to expose your kids to big ideas and get them excited about learning. A great friend of ABC City Guides for Kids, the Harvard Museum of Natural History, has some noteworthy events coming up in December.
On December 10th the museum will offer rare evening hours (5-8PM), a 20% discount off purchases at the museum shop, and a free lecture at 6 PM, Six Years on Mars, by Harvard Professor Andrew Knoll who just returned from the red planet. Okay maybe the Professor didn't actually visit Mars but he has spent a lot of time examining its rocks and scientific data and has some interesting observations to share.
On December 13th, one of this year's MacArthur "genius grant" winners Harvard Professor L. Mahadevan will lead a family program that will describe the intersecting worlds of mathematics, physics and engineering to help us understand how a tiny ant can lift many times its own weight while a beached whale cannot even support its own weight.
Familes should also check out the newly renovated Great Mammal Hall and Evolution and Language of Color exhibitions.
